A 7.0 earthquake 12 miles off the coast of New Guinea caused a 25 foot tidal wave on July 18 that left as many as 6,000 dead or missing. The New Guinea earthquake was on the same longitude as Japan and the latitudes activated with the calendar day sign Dog associated with Brazil. A 6 magnitude earthquake 10 miles northeast of the Azores Islands in the Atlantic left at least 10 dead and more than 1,000 homeless. A 6.2 earthquake shook Taiwan, killing five people while a 6.1 earthquake occurred in Tibet.
PREDICTION FOR JULY 7 - 19, 1998 : Earthquake and volcanic activity will continue in Japan, New Zealand and Antarctic along with storms on the Atlantic seaboard of the United States and South America, where Brazil is the focus of this window. Renewed volcanic activity on Montserrat in the Caribbean will parallel increasing eruptions of Vesuvius and Etna in the Mediterranean as solar flares stabilize at a new high.
JULY 20 - AUGUST 1, 1998
PREDICTION: Activity in the previous window [eruption of Montserrat, Etna and Vesuvius volcanoes with storms on the Atlantic seaboard of the United States and South America, where Brazil is the focus of this window] will intensify as the July 26 New Year echoes the annual rising of the Dog Star, Sirius. Associated with the Bermuda Triangle in the Caribbean, the Night seal promises magnetic and electrical storms, bizarre lights and clouds. This is a time of signs and wonders in the heavens, generically known as astronomical events in modern terms.
RESULTS: Mt Etna scattered rocks for six miles when it erupted with increased ferocity on July 23. Mt. Merapi in Indonesia erupted with volcanic ash. Tropical Storm Alex moved westward to the Atlantic coast after forming near Africa and Hurricane Darby formed off the coast of Mexico. Earthquakes included a 6.1 in Chili northeast of Santiago, a 6.6 in the Irian Jaya province of Indonesia, a 5.5 in western China, 3.9 and 4.5 in Romania and a 3.5 in northern California.
A new comet (C/1998 P1) was discovered August 10, nine days after the predicted window, by Peter Williams of Heathcore, Australia. The comet is easily visible with small telescopes although its orbit and distance have not been calculated. Several days after the comet was discovered, a crop circle depicting a comet approach a planetary orbit was made in England. A virtual silence about what's going on "out there" since the SOHO satellite was lost June 25 has delayed information about astronomical events. The silence included NASA's failure to issue warnings for a magnitude 7 magnetic storm that affected the planet June 26. (See Cracking The Cosmic Egg, The Missing Link, June 1998.)
NOVEMBER 27 - DECEMBER 10
PREDICTION: The finale of the March 12, 1998 eclipse cycle will play out along 112W 50' longitude through the Antarctic, Easter Island, Central America and America's western areas, including Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico and California. Volcanic earthquakes and eruptions are guaranteed to increase in these areas, putting the Landers, Los Angeles and Mammoth Lake areas at high risk. (Triangle: Antarctic, Coast of Peru and Southern Pacific - 260TH DAY OF 3/12/98 ECLIPSE )
RESULTS: A volcanic pattern that includes Montserrat's collapsing appears to be developing, that includes Mts Etna and Vesuvius in Europe and White Island in New Zealand. Mt Popo (Popocatepetl) south of Mexico City erupted December 1 with the greatest intensity in four years. After evacuating residents from a four-mile area of Vulcan del Fuego west of Mexico City, the volcano erupted again December 10 in the area predicted. Earthquakes increased along longitude 112W 50' at Easter Island in the south through Montana in the north and continued at high level through December. (See attached listing.)
Large solar flares the TimeStar predicted to begin November 22 continued through December. Signal bursts associated with the solar flares were mistakenly identified as incoming space craft, that some estimated to arrive "somewhere" north of Phoenix, Arizona December 7. Although UFO sightings radically increased over Georgia December 7, none landed.SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - A citywide blackout cut off power to more than a third of a million customers Tuesday [December 8], halting trains, planes and cars, closing shops and schools and leaving pedestrians scrambling. John Tremayne, a Pacific Gas & Electric spokesman for the Central Valley, said the outage happened when a transmission substation in San Mateo County experienced a drop in power for unknown reasons [emphasis added]. That caused two gas-powered electrical generation facilities to drop offline. Power went out just after 8 a.m. Electricity was beginning to be restored to the 372,000 affected customers by midmorning, but the work was expected to last into the late afternoon, said a PG&E spokesman.
JANUARY 13 - JANUARY 25, 1999
FEBRUARY 5 - FEBRUARY 17, 1999
Power, computer, navigation and satellite failures characterize this period of storms across the U.S. Montserrat in the Caribbean will trigger intensified activity in Vulcan del Fuego, Mt. Popo, Mt. Etna and Mt. Vesuvius. In July, 1998 vulcanologists predicted that Montserrat would go dormant for at least 30 years while the TimeStar forecast changes in Montserrat heralded increased activity worldwide. Earthquake and volcanic activity has increased worldwide since the November 27 - December 10 window named with the TimeStar. (Triangle: Salt Lake Desert, Peru and No. Atlantic - Night - 182ND DAY OF 8/7/98 ECLIPSE)
RESULTS: Feb. 15 - A power blackout that crippled Buenos Aires, Argentina for two weeks started in this window. The blackout was protested with nightly pot-banging and tire burning. "Leaders of the Alliance coalition blamed President Carlos Menem's government for granting the lease for electric distribution in the capital to Edesur in 1992. 'The government is simply not trustworthy when it comes to decisions over the defense of consumers,' Carlos Alvarez charged in comments published Wednesday by local newspapers. Critics from all sides called on Menem's government to hold a new round of bidding for the power contract. " (AP)
The SOHO satellite failed again on February 14 after an early February recovery from a December 21, 1998 failure. The trend of equipment failures will continue through the end of February as solar activity increases. After a week with no significant solar flares, flares began to build again on February 9 with a Class M flare on February 11. The build-up in this window will begin to peak in the next one, beginning February 18. The TimeStar matrix is a read out of biological cycles governed by the sun, thus it reflects solar cycles.
VULCAN DEL FUEGO VOLCANO - Feb. 18, 1999 -- Nearly 500 residents from 11 villages near Mexico's Volcan de Fuego were evacuated as the volcano again spewed lava and ash from its crater on Thursday. The country's center for emergency services was preparing a plan for the possible evacuation of the entire region around the 14,200-foot volcano, where about 300,000 people live. On Wednesday, the Volcan de Fuego -- Spanish for Volcano of Fire -- registered at least 10 explosions, on two occasions triggering several landslides from its crater.
Feb. 16, 1999 -- More than 7,000 residents living near Mexico's Volcan de Fuego face an imminent evacuation after the volcano thrusted nine-foot boulders from its crater on Tuesday. The volcano has been increasingly active since more than 100 people were evacuated from three nearby communities last Wednesday. Authorities are now considering evacuating about 7,000 people living within a nine-mile radius from its crater. [Discover On-Line]
Feb. 10, 1999 - An explosion shook the crater of the Volcano of Fire in western Mexico early Wednesday [February 10], releasing lava, gas and ash and forcing officials to evacuate some nearby residents. The government's Notimex news agency said the village of Juan Barragan at the base of the volcano was being evacuated due to a cloud of gas released by the 2 a.m. explosion at the volcano, part of the Colima Volcano complex. Diego Hernandez, a radio operator at the Colima state civil defense department, said several other villages also were being evacuated. But he said "there are no great risks" to human life. (AP)
Feb. 9, 1999 -- Heavy lava flowed from Sicily's Mount Etna on Tuesday [February 9], creating a 1.2-mile (2 km) river of molten rock down the volcano's southeastern flank. The 10,500-foot Etna began spewing ash and debris over the surrounding area last Thursday [February 4], but the most recent activity brought an unusually large amount of lava to the nearby region of Valle del Bove. According to vulcanologists, the volcano's sustained and slow lava flow is a normal event and required no evacuations or warnings. [Discover On-Line]
Feb. 4, 1999 - The Mount Etna volcano began to spew smoke and lava Thursday, February 4 which continued through February 5. International experts announced they have discovered a crack on the crater's southeastern flank soon after lava began gushing down Etna's slopes, state-run RAI-TV said. The crack apparently means the crater is changing shape. The volcano, 20 miles north of Catania, was being watched closely for signs of a possible eruption.
Feb. 4, 1999 - Mt Popo erupted February 4, the same day a crack appeared in Mts Etna's side.
Storms swept through the western U.S. the day after this window opened, closing schools in Utah, Colorado and California. Residents of Anchorage, Alaska endured a lengthy cold spell that disrupted a range of activities, including oil production, ski lodges, transportation and sporting activities.
